Halsey’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Review + My Top 5 Fav Songs from the Album

I have to admit, before the release of Hopeless Fountain Kingdom I wouldn’t identify as a Halsey fan. For some reason I found myself confusing her sound with Tove Lo’s because I believed both artists recorded music that was too distinct from mainstream pop melodies to be entrancing just yet.

I believe the only songs I liked off of Halsey’s previous album Badlands was Control, Ghost (mainstream, I know *rolls eyes*), and New Americana. I barely listened to them, but I knew that out of the entire album those were the only one’s I enjoyed enough to listen to on my own.

Hopeless Fountain Kingdom really took me by surprise. It’s very rare that I find an album containing more than two songs I love, and this album was a nice exception. I love the Angels vs. Demons theme she decided to go with since the songs are very much aligned with that kind of struggle. Her voice, as distinct as it is, is accompanied by beats that really accentuate it! No, I am not exactly obsessed with every song but the ones listed here are the ones that I can’t help but play on repeat!

Favorite #1: Now or Never

The first song I heard from Hopeless Fountain Kingdom was Now or Never and as I inclined my ear to it, I thought “This is so dope.”. So congrats to this song for not only being the most played song on the album, but making me curious enough to look up the album.

That brought me to discovering my next favorite…

Favorite #2: Eyes Closed

Her voice + this beat = perfection. Little did I know that this single was released before the album itself. I believe Now or Never was released as a single before the album was released as well, I just didn’t know 😛

On to number three…

Favorite #3: Hopeless feat. Cashmere Cat

I think I might… I MIGHT… be in the beginning stages of becoming a fan of Cashmere Cat. If you read my last music post, you know that I really enjoyed the songs on his album. I felt like I wouldn’t be disappointed with this collab when I clicked on the song and surely I wasn’t!

And now for the more upbeat favorites..

Favorite #4: Alone

This song is too adorable. I honestly don’t have much to say about it except that it’s fire and every time I hear it I’m dancing &/or singing along!

Finally, my last favorite is… drumroll please…

Favorite #5: Walls Could Talk

“And I’m thinking _ if these walls could talk *hit em with the beat*” ;P

Hope you guys enjoyed this post as much as I did making it!

Which songs are your favorites off of the album? If this is your first time hearing of it, what do you think of the songs mentioned?

  1. I love Halsey’s Badlands album, and her new album is just as good. I’ve been listening to it a lot lately. My most favorite song on the album is “Strangers”. I also love “Heaven In Hiding”, “Don’t Play” and “Lie”, although every song on the album is good.

    1. That’s good that you are able to enjoy the entire album! For my last favorite, I was actually torn between listing “Lie” and listing “Walls Could Talk”. Love her and Quavo together though.
