“There’s no failure except in no longer trying”
If you started this year thinking that you were going to crush a few goals, started off strong, and abandoned them slowly but surely- this post is for you.
2020 isn’t over yet! Here are a few tips on how to get back on the right track when you’ve lost your stride.
1. Assess Where You’re At
This applies to your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health. It’s easy for us to just exist sometimes and I think that the lack of focus can take us away from our goals. It’s a slow fade and it always starts with where we are internally so just making an honest evaluation of yourself can really help you to see what you’ve lost sight of and where your vision is at now.
2. Redetermine What Your Goals Are
There are some goals that you may realize you are just not that committed to accomplishing after all.
The truth is if you really want something, you’re going to make it happen. If you keep creating excuses for yourself, then take that as a sign! It might not be as important to you as you think.
3. Sift the Real from the Unreal
When you do redetermine what your goals are, be sure to sift the realistic from the unrealistic. You’re not “switching up” if your priorities just aren’t the same anymore. It’s easy to get overambitious (yes, there is such a thing!). It’s okay if you apply some thought to your goals and determine that you’ve changed your mind about certain things.
Maybe that workout plan you wanted to abide by isn’t really aligned with your goals after all. Maybe you really just want to eat better or stop snacking so much. And now that you’ve stopped shaming yourself for not going to the gym when you said you would, you can do something that you actually want to do while drinking a very healthy smoothie.
See where I’m going with this?
4. Adjust Your Focus
After you’ve sifted through your goals, try placing your focus on one or two things at a time. Commit to them and motivate yourself to accomplish those specific goals. Set the alarms you need to, make the calendar events that will help keep you on track, and even consider getting an accountability partner! These methods and several others could really help you to stay on track with your goals and get you closer to that finish line!
5. Move Forward
At the end of the day, things happen in this life that we don’t always account for. The worst thing you can do to yourself is think that because you fell off track, you’re never going to get to where you want to be.
Don’t let a simple set back set you back for longer than it already does. You’ve got this! Stay committed and you will get there!
