Drugstore Gems: Milani Baked Blushes

Drugstore Gems: Milani Baked Blushes

I have no shame in saving a buck or two on products that are just as superb as (and sometimes even better than) their high-end competitors! I wanted to start a new series on the blog in honor of that and share with you guys the drugstore products whose value I feel totally surpasses the monetary one given them.

I figured starting off with my favorite two shades of Milani Baked Blushes would be a great way to kick off the series! I mean, really, just look at how gorgeous these are… Continue reading “Drugstore Gems: Milani Baked Blushes”

Hair Porosity 101

Hair Porosity 101

If you are a curly girl living in a not-so-curl-friendly world and want to grow your natural tresses out, this post is your first step in the right direction. There are too many hair products out there to just blithely spend money on ones that do more harm than good to your hair. Even hair products you hear praises about through the grape-vine may not be the best for you to use. Identifying your hair porosity allows you to find products that work best for you without having to experiment so much.

Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects Review

Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects Review

Because teeth whitening products are sold in a few different forms and by so many different brands, choosing just one can be hard to do.  I did quite a bit of research before I felt comfortable enough to purchase Crests 3D Professional Effects Whitening Strips. Most of the YouTube video’s I watched and online reviews I read praised the product for its results. Out of the complaints, the majority were about how harsh the teeth sensitivity became while using the strips. I have never experienced any sensitivity in my teeth before however, so I figured I would give the whitening system a try. I am super glad that I did because I was actually pretty impressed by the results! Continue reading “Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects Review”

Top 10 Top Notch Drugstore Make-Up Products

Top 10 Top Notch Drugstore Make-Up Products

The holiday’s are approaching and already I’ve walked into a few stores where they are playing holiday music. Luckily along with the holiday music, in-store and online holiday deals have started popping up! More specifically, deals on make-up. Some of these prices still manage to lean towards the expensive side and while I admit sometimes it is understandable.. other time’s it isn’t. Especially when these less expensive drugstore products do the exact same job:

Maybelline Master Drama Eyeliner in Midnight Master

maybeline-master-drama-eyeliner
$6-$12

I absolutely love the way this eyeliner glides on. It has a very creamy consistency, so when you apply it you barely even need to apply pressure to see the color. It’s great for tightlining and waterlining!

NYC Liquid Eyeliner

nyc-liquid-eyeliner
$3-$5

Liquid eyeliner can seem pretty scary especially since it is all too easy to mess up. While it does take some practice,  the end result is worth it. This eyeliner is practically immovable. If you love doing wings, I’d definitely recommend this one.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara in Blackest Black

revlon-mascara
$5-$8

This mascara does a good job of elongating your lashes, but my favorite thing about it is the brush. Instead of clumping the lashes together, the brush does a great job fanning them out and making them look fuller in volume.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect

maybeline-mascara
$6-$8

Ignoring the annoying shape of the handle to the wand, this mascara is comparable to the Better Than Sex Mascara by Two Faced.. I mean in every way except the brush and price. The curved shape of the brush is pretty useful. You lift the lashes with the inward curved part and elongate the lashes with the sort of dome shaped part. My first use I was kind of shocked at the difference it made in my lashes! Two thumbs up for this one.

Milani Powder and Baked Blushes

romantic-rose-blush
$5-$8

The formula’s are different between the baked blushes and the powder blushes but both are gorgeous. The baked blushes seem to have more of a shimmer to them (almost like a highlight) and the powder blushes are more natural looking. Both types of blush add a really nice flush of color to the cheeks.

Elf Blush Palate in Light

elf-blush
$6

Even though the palate claims to be “light” I really think the pigmentation is strong enough for those with darker skin as well. The colors are beautiful and they are great for any season!

Wet N’ Wild Color Icon Eyeshadows

wetnwild2
$2-$6

The Color Icon Comfort Zone Palate is very similar to the Urban Decay Naked Palate in terms of color, but I would say the color icon eyeshadows in general are similar to the Naked shadows in that they have smooth application and good pigmentation.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

maybelline-concealer-fit-me-medium-041554247725-o
$5-$8

Even though the packaging is extremely identical to that of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, I can’t say too much about the application similarities because I haven’t been able to try the Nars concealer myself. However, the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is light, creamy, and effective for multiple uses; hiding blemishes, under eye concealing, and even contouring.

L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

loreal-foundation-infallible-pro-matte
$7-$13

I think views on different drugstore foundations are a little controversial because everyone’s skin has a different reaction to different products. My skin is combination during the winter but oily during the summer. When I tried this foundation it was in the hot Texas summer and it did a wonderful job of staying on as well as controlling any shine. Not to mention, it didn’t feel heavy like most drugstore foundations tend to, but felt pretty lightweight.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil

nyx-micro-brow-pencil
$10

Everyone has heard of Anastasia Beverly Hill’s game changing Brow Wiz pencil and while I do encourage anyone to splurge on the Brow Wiz pencil, NYX’s Micro Brow Pencil is a pretty close inexpensive second.

Have you ever tried any of these products? Do you have any drug store dupes you love? Let me know in the comments!

Hair Update: One Year After the Big Chop

Hair Update: One Year After the Big Chop

It’s been one COMPLETE year since I have used ANY heat on my hair and I am quite shocked I’ve even made it this far. The girl before the chop didn’t want to have anything to do with “puffy hair” as I called it back then. However, I wouldn’t regret my decision to go all natural and am very proud of the internal and external results!
